The Improved and Improving ICA: Overview
7 September 2007
When ICA began, in 2001, our original intent was to restrict our activities to two areas: (a) lobbying for independent contractors' rights and (b) providing educational information through our Website on independent contractor issue. We believe that a great deal has been achieved since 2001.
However, over the last few years we have had increasing and constant requests for specific services to assist independent contractors and the businesses that engage independent contractors. We have decided to respond to this demand. But to do so we found that we needed to change the structure, membership and Website format to accommodate the new services. The last twelve months have been spent planning and implementing changes. We are now ready to launch the revamped Website.
ICA now offers:
- New membership categories. (Click here for information and joining)
- A new constitution. (Members click here for a copy.)
- A new brochure explaining our new directions. (Click here [PDF])
In this the new Website format you will find a cleaner, crisper look. Members-only information has been moved to the 'contractor' and 'user' sections of the site.
This has opened up space on the news sections for links to service providers of many sorts. Over the next months and years the contractor and user sections will expand with a wide range of services. Our policy in creating or linking to such services is to ensure that the services are practical and conform to the ethical standards that are important to independent contractors.
Suggestions; We are open to suggestions as to what services independent contractors need and what services might be available in the community.
New services soon
Two new services will become available shortly:
- A contract template model that is useable by both independent contractors and engagers/users. We have had repeated and frequent requests for such a service over many years.
- An on-line jobs board offering that is a little different to the usual.
Commitment to education and lobbying: Our new services are an advance on the education and lobbying activities that will continue and remain our core reason for existing.
