The Improved and Improving ICA:
New Membership Categories

7 September 2007

ICA has changed its membership categories.

One of ICA's driving visions has and continues to be that the world of work involving independent contractors is not one which depends on a 'them and us' mentality. We are all in business together, seeking mutually beneficial commercial outcomes. As businesses, whether big or small, the issues that unite us are potentially strong if we choose them to be strong.

One key to achieving mutually beneficial outcomes is that the structure of the contracts we use allocates rights and responsibilities equally and fairly. Further, that the laws and regulations under which we operate respect and reinforce the mutual rights and responsibilities under contract.

In restructuring our membership and the Board, ICA has sought to replicate this vision of mutually beneficial outcome within our structure. The ICA Board has been restructured to give a blend of representation from independent contractors, businesses who engage independent contractors, and industry bodies. Membership nomination and voting rights for the Board have been restructured according to this vision. Membership is also available for independent contractors and businesses who don't want to participate in the management of ICA.

On the ICA Board
  • Up to 4 members come from independent contractor members;
  • Up to 3 members come from user business members;
  • Up to 3 members come from industry members.
The Board can appoint an additional 2 members
