August 2010
In late July, the Federal Court fined construction unions $1.3 million over the violence on the Westgate Bridge project in Melbourne in 2009. We've highlighted extracts from the judgment demonstrating what was happening. Caution! Some of the language is pretty foul.

Here's a video clip of people trying to get to work past the abusive picketers at Westgate. And the transcript of a video of the fined union threatening workers from the construction cop. Careful. It's also laced with foul language.

There's more. Here's the same union declaring "... you remember that, Kevin and Julia, the people that put you there can take you away too ..."

Julia Gillard should not close down the construction cop (ABCC) as she plans if she wins government. Tony Abbott has promised to keep the ABCC. People deserve to be safe when they go to work.

Update 18 November 2010: Allegations of corruption Wild allegations are being made in court by insider whistleblowers about large scale, systemic corruption involving construction unions and the giant construction firm Multiplex.

Update 9 August 2010: Robert Gottliebsen explains why state schools are so expensive to build.

Update 8 August 2010: Construction unions don't learn. They've been fined another $67,000 for violence at a gas plant upgrade. Here's the court judgment.
